In April 1970, President Nixon signed into law the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act banning the advertising of cigarettes on television and radio starting on 2 January 1971.

This one act cost broadcasting millions is revenue. Corporate America took note and recognized this step as a threat to every company. "We can't let this happen to us". Since that date the lawyers have been tasked with making sure it can't happen again.

They realized the real threat was local legislation on the state level and formed ALEC - The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a nonprofit organization of conservative state legislators and private sector representatives who draft and share model state-level legislation for distribution among state governments in the United States.

 ALEC has produced model bills on a broad range of issues, such as reducing regulation and individual and corporate taxation, combating illegal immigration, loosening environmental regulations, tightening voter identification rules, weakening labor unions, and opposing gun control.

On the federal level the same theme is advancing towards more control of the government with the culmination in the current administration. We, the people, are losing more and more of the say we have in our government.

Weather Radar

My dedicated weather monitor: An old 2004 Hewlett Packard Pavilion Desktop A744X Intel Pentium 4 running Ubuntu 16.04LTS and hardwired to an internet router. It displays local radar via 10News with three different possible geographical views and two NOAA GOES infrared satellite animations and one still from of the Gulf of Mexico. The page refreshes with updates automatically every five minutes. I leave it up and running all the time. I have another old computer with a sub woofer sound system and big HD monitor for movies and another for browsing and such. A fourth old PC with multiple hard drives serves as an archive and repository for personal data.

WHY I DO NOT EVACUATE OR GO TO A SHELTER DURING HURRICANES:

I am NOT in an evacuation level or zone. Those are determined by the land. My home is 52 feet above sea level. I do not live in a manufactured or mobile home. No matter what evacuation zone all mobile home owners are required to evacuate. My home is CBS - Concrete Block Structure - it was built in 1962 and utilizes steel reinforced concrete blocks with cement poured inside the blocks around the reinforcing rods. My next door neighbor installed galvanized metal hurricane shutters and ruined 10 diamond drill bits making the anchors in the walls. A wooden structure cannot withstand a telephone pole impacting at 100MPH. Mine can. The structure is built on a concrete slab. Nothing can get under it and the slab stays cool. In my neighborhood the houses are very close together. This is further protection from the full force of hurricane winds. Houses on a corner lot do not have this full protection. I am not on a corner. My most vulnerable side is the front facing the street.

Currently my only drawbacks are the lack of hurricane shutters and a wooden roof. The original construction included concrete tiles on the roof. As a consequence the roof is supported by double the number of rafters for the extra weight of the tiles. I had my roof replaced with asphalt shingles in 2003 but the rafters provide the extra protection of a fallen tree. Hurricane anchors for the roof may still be required to keep it from becoming unattached during 150MHP winds. Always a possibility.

Most hurricane shelters DO NOT TAKE PETS. We have two cats. Once you enter a shelter they do not let you leave until the storm is over. I would go crazy with nothing to do and not knowing how my house survived the storm. My friend took his children to a shelter and brilliantly took a tent and set up inside the shelter for privacy.

My telephone is a landline. A real 1960s copper hardwire. When the power goes out and cellphones lose their connection my phone still works. It always has. My neighbors have similar houese and do not evacuate either. We all work together after the storm to help clean up and combine resources to provide each other with necessities. The rest of the time we pretty much leave each other alone. I like that. We are only two miles from the Gulf of Mexico but I am confident we could withstand a cat5 from the west at full force. Should the roof blow off we have a small hallway 3ft x 8ft. in the center of the house where we would literally "hunker down".

If there is a hurricane we will be home. Call us. When the power goes out there is nothing to do.

Biological warfare experiment

In late 1968 the Deseret Test Center conducted a biological warfare experiment at Yeehaw Junction, Florida. The experiment was part of Project 112 and was labelled DTC Test 69-75. Stem rust of wheat or Puccinia graminis tritici, was known as "Agent TX" and was being tested to determine its effectiveness against a wheat crop in time of war. The tests were conducted over a period of one month from October 31 to December 1, 1968. Live agent was sprayed by a U.S. Air Force McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom fighter jet on seven different occasions and dead agent, consisting of spores that were killed by a gaseous mixture of ethylene oxide was sprayed four occasions.^[8] The stated objective of Deseret Test Center (DTC) Test 69-75 was to investigate the effectiveness of the F-4/A/B and 45Y-2/TX weapon systems to reduce soviet wheat crop yields in selected geographic areas. The objective was subdivided into other tasks: determine the downwind travel of agent TX released from the A/B 45Y-2 spray tank; estimate the yield reduction and loss of wheat crops attacked by the weapon system; study the effectiveness of killed TX as a simulant for agent TX; and, evaluate the adequacy to predict downwind dosages of TX.^[8] The tests were unknown to local residents and officials until October 2002 when Senator Bill Nelson demanded details of the tests from the U.S. Department of Defense after knowledge of the test was eventually revealed during a larger congressional inquiry of potential effects on participating veterans of chemical and biological testing. Eglin Air Force Base, Avon Park Air Force Range Panama City, Belle Glade, and Fort Pierce, were additional sites in Florida of biological agent production and testing

Will technology ever catch Voyager I?

Dreams of Star Trek.

Launched in September 1977 the Voyager program was a Grand Tour to study the outer planets. The Grand Tour would take advantage of an alignment of the outer planets discovered by Gary Flandro, an aerospace engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the 1960s. This alignment, which occurs once every 175 years, would occur in the late 1970s and make it possible to use gravitational assists to explore Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto with very little fuel. It took a year and a half to get to Jupiter, another year and a half to get to Saturn. The big planets were used to speed up the spacecraft and after Voyager passed Saturn it was moving over 39,000 mph.

It still is.

August 25, 2012 Voyager I entered interstellar space. It took 45 years just leave the influence of the solar wind. It is now 13 billion miles from Earth but still in the gravitational range of the solar system. Sedna, a dwarf planet discovered in 2003, orbits 90 billion miles from the sun taking 11,400 years to complete. Beyond that is the Oort Cloud, a theoretical cloud of predominantly icy planetesimals believed to surround the Sun to as far as somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 AU (3 light years, 19 trillion miles).

So insteller travel is still way beyond our technology. Way beyond. Even "locally" we've discovered Jupiter has deadly radiation belts extending out 7 million kilometers from the planet making sight seeing possible only from a distance. It took Voyager II twelve years to get to Neptune. Interplanetary travel is also way beyond or technology.

Star Trek the dream is only that. Nothing more.

Kessler, the organizer of the "Unite the Right" rally, applied for a permit from the City of Charlottesville to hold the event at Emancipation Park.

The city's leaders cited safety concerns and logistical issues associated with holding the event at Emancipation Park, adjacent to the densely populated Downtown Mall. Kessler refused to agree to relocate the rally, but the City relocated the rally anyway, a decision praised by the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville. Kessler, supported by the Rutherford Institute and the ACLU, sued the City of Charlottesville and Jones on First Amendment grounds in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. The night before the rally, Judge Glen E. Conrad granted an emergency injunction declaring that the Unite the Right rally could go forward.

Prior to the rally, counter protesters obtained permit(s) to gather at McGuffey Park and Justice Park, both less than a quarter-mile distant from the Emancipation Park rally. Charlottesville City Council spokeswoman Miriam I. Dickler later remarked that counter-protesters did not need permits to protest the rally at Emancipation Park.

Among the far-right groups engaged in organizing the march were the clubs of the neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer, The Right Stuff, the National Policy Institute, and four groups that form the Nationalist Front: the neo-Confederate League of the South, the Traditionalist Workers Party, Vanguard America, and the National Socialist Movement. Other groups involved in the rally were the Ku Klux Klan, the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights, the 3 Percenters, Identity Evropa, the Oath Keepers, the American Guard, the Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia, the New York Light Foot Militia, the Virginia Minutemen Militia, the Detroit Right Wings, the Rise Above Movement, True Cascadia, and Anti-Communist Action.

Groups counterprotesting included representatives from the National Council of Churches, Black Lives Matter, Anti-Racist Action, Antifa, the Democratic Socialists of America, the Workers World Party, the Revolutionary Communist Party, Redneck Revolt, the Industrial Workers of the World, the Metropolitan Anarchist Coordinating Council, and Showing Up for Racial Justice.

Slavery

From the 15th through the 19th centuries the South Atlantic and Caribbean economic system centered on producing commodity crops, making goods and clothing to sell in Europe, and increasing the numbers of African slaves brought to the New World. The Bible mentions slavery as an established institution. Slavery was also widespread in Africa, with both internal and external slave trade.

In 1526, the Portuguese completed the first transatlantic slave voyage from Africa to the Americas, and other countries soon followed. As property, the people were considered merchandise or units of labour, and were sold at markets with other goods and services. The major Atlantic slave trading nations, ordered by trade volume, were: the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Spanish, and the Dutch Empire.

Slavery was an economic tactical tool to gain profits in the new world market. By the 1860s slavery in the states accounted for 33% of the population in the south. Abolition represented a major financial burden to the captains of industry. Money is what slavery is about.

For a hundred years the rich in the south justified slavery using the bible and pseudo science. In his Cornerstone Speech, Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens said (regarding slavery):

"Our new government is founded upon exactly [this] idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth."

The monuments erected in honor to Civil War heroes (and they were heroes) should now be considered to location in regard to the honor they are given. Many should remain but it must be a community decision. Personally I believe they should be moved when possible to a more honorable place where the respect they deserve for their duty to their homeland can be high.

The idea for which they served their homeland was a bad idea but the men deserve recognition for bravery. Confederate and Union soldiers are considered equal under federal law, President William McKinley cited reconciliation between the North and South in a speech that followed the conclusion of the Spanish American War on December 14, 1898. A number of former Confederate officers had volunteered for service during the war, which had helped secure U.S. victory, McKinley said:

… Every soldier’s grave made during our unfortunate Civil War is a tribute to American valor. And while, when those graves were made, we differed widely about the future of this government, those differences were long ago settled by the arbitrament of arms; and the time has now come, in the evolution of sentiment and feeling under the providence of God, when in the spirit of fraternity we should share with you in the care of the graves of the Confederate soldiers.

The Cordial feeling now happily existing between the North and South prompts this gracious act, and if it needed further justification, it is found in the gallant loyalty to the Union and the flag so conspicuously shown in the year just past by the sons and grandsons of these (Spanish American War veterans).
What a glorious future awaits us if united, wisely, and bravely we face the new problems now pressing upon us, determined to solve them for right and humanity.

That flag has been planted in two hemispheres, and there it remains the symbol of liberty and law, of peace and progress. Who will withdraw from the people over whom it floats its protecting folds? Who will haul it down? Answer me, ye men of the South, who is there in Dixie who will haul it down?

Collective intelligence, dynamics of the crowd in participatory systems such as social media, have immense power to support a collective action – such as foment a political change.

For two years ending in 2013, the FBI had a court-approved warrant to eavesdrop on a sophisticated Russian organized crime money-laundering network that operated out of unit 63A in Trump Tower in New York. The FBI investigation led to a federal grand jury indictment of more than 30 people, including one of the world’s most notorious Russian mafia bosses, Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov. He was the only target to slip away, and he remains a fugitive from American justice.

Interpol issued a red notice for Tokhtakhounov, he appeared near Donald Trump in the VIP section of the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow. Trump had sold the Russian rights for Miss Universe to a billionaire Russian shopping mall developer.

In 2014 the Russian Mafia organized a rash of thefts of credit card data from big-name retail chains like Home Depot and Target. Estimates of revenue enjoyed by the identity theft and data hostage taking by the group are near 10 billion dollars.

In 2015 Vladimir Putin began to both arrest and obtain the help of Russian hackers, who are granted a degree of impunity in return for their willingness from time to time to target the Kremlin’s foes. In 1994, Russian President Boris Yeltsin warned that his country was becoming “a superpower of crime.” Today, Vladimir Putin appears to be courting that very same status, but in a profoundly different way, regarding Russian-based organized crime abroad not as a threat or an embarrassment but a potential opportunity.

Donald Trump's business partners and associates earlier met with Russian crime bosses who benefited from the fall of the the Soviet Union and had billions to invest.

New York City real estate broker Dolly Lenz told USA TODAY she sold about 65 condos in Trump World at 845 U.N. Plaza in Manhattan to Russian investors, many of whom sought personal meetings with Trump for his business expertise.

“I had contacts in Moscow looking to invest in the United States,” Lenz said. “They all wanted to meet Donald. They became very friendly.” Many of those meetings happened in Trump's office at Trump Tower or at sales events, Lenz said.

In the beginning of 2016 Putin had welcomed the mafia and their cyber expertise in breaking into secure systems and, especially, social media manipulation of people's hearts and minds to influence the political status of various countries. So much so that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization investigated the use of so-called "fake news" to undermine government stability in European countries. Russian military was starting to take notice and began to incorporate the same tactics. In effect, the Russian Mafia became a part of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (the former KGB).

Putin's hatred of Hillary Clinton is well known and his desire to stop her influence on American foreign policy was tantamount. In the summer of 2016 both the hacking of the DNC email servers and robotic multiplication of social media accounts as well as automatic spreading of fake news increased in earnest.

These facts are known and documented. It is now up to the United States Intelligence Services to determine whether the Donald Trump campaign worked with the Russians to facilitate any direct affect on the elections. Putin could have done it all on his own.

In late January 2017, Sater met with Ukrainian politician Andrey Artemenko and Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, at the Loews Regency in Manhattan to discuss a plan to lift sanctions against Russia. The proposed plan would require that Russian forces withdraw from eastern Ukraine and that Ukraine hold a referendum on whether Crimea should be "leased" to Russia for 50 or 100 years. Sater gave Cohen a written proposal in a sealed envelope that was delivered to then-National Security Advisor Michael T. Flynn in early February. On 20 February 2017 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rejected Russia "leasing" Crimea from Ukraine claiming "we cannot rent from ourselves".

Since 1998 Felix Sater has been an FBI informant. The FBI investigation of organizd crime is still an active investigation. We know that since 1983, Trump Tower has been bugged. Every document, every source, every bit of information the FBI and Dept of Justice have accumulated in over 30 years of investigation of one of the largest criminal organisations worldwide have for years now been turned over the moment they were received.

On 29 December 2016, the White House sanctioned the FSB and several other Russian companies for helping the Russian military intelligence service, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), to allegedly disrupt and spread disinformation during the 2016 US presidential election. In addition, the State Department also declared 35 Russian diplomats and officials persona non grata and denied Russian government officials access to two Russian-owned installations in Maryland and New York.

The Trump issue in the US is unprecedented.  The electorate, by a moderate but firm majority never supported him.  He lost the popular vote by millions.  His own base is falling apart, now more a sign of American failures, insanity, extremism and decades of propagandization.

Malachi Hemphill, 13 years old of Forest Park, Georgia, shows off a gun to his friends on Instagram April 10,  2017. One of his friends  asked Malachi to put an ammunition clip in the gun. "As he put the clip in the gun, that is when the gun went off,"

The boy's mother, Shaniqua Stephens, and her daughter broke down the teen's door after hearing a loud "boom", and found the boy on the floor in a pool of blood. His mobile phone was still on and streaming live video through social media site Instagram, his family said.

Dozens of his friends came rushing to his house after realizing what had happened. "There was about 40 to 50 kids outside," said Stephens. "I guess these were the kids that were watching on live that live in the area. I guess when it happened they just ran over here."

The boy was taken to nearby Grady Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Forest Park police are now investigating how Malachi came to be in possession of the handgun, with Stephens believing it may have been given to her son by a friend.

Adsense payout- part of the agreement stipulates you do not tell. Total annual payout is a trade secret. Estimates range from 1.5 to 2 BILLION USD. Possibly double that due to the 2016 elections.

Jesus was the master of teaching in parables. His parables often have an unexpected twist or surprise ending that catches our attention and drives home the parable's lesson. The parables give us a feeling and insight into heavenly and spiritual concepts that cannot be expressed in mere words. They also give us a much richer understanding of the kingdom of God and its values, which are often the opposite of worldly values. Without understanding the parables, it is impossible to fully understand Jesus and His teachings.

FAKE NEWS has become a strategic weapon in the fight for the hearts and minds of the people. Social media is the delivery vehicle. Some Russian campaigns didn't work. Stories predicting doom from climate change or nuclear war have gained little to no traction in the U.S. Liberal supporters didn’t gravitate to Russian propaganda in substantial numbers, either. But when Russia’s digital propagandists find a message that resonates among a disgruntled American audience, they refocus their efforts to exploit where they find success—predominantly among conservative audiences seeking damaging information against liberals.

Reduce Environmental and other Regulations?

Kepone...
In the US, kepone was produced by Allied Signal Company and LifeSciences Product Company in Hopewell, Virginia. The improper handling and dumping of the substance into the nearby James River (U.S.) in the 1960s and 1970s drew national attention to its toxic effects on humans and wildlife. The product is similar to DDT and is a degradation product of Mirex. The history of Kepone incidents are reviewed in Who's Poisoning America?: Corporate Polluters and Their Victims in the Chemical Age (1982). In 2009, Kepone was included in the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants, which bans its production and use worldwide.

The James River was closed to fishing for thirteen years.

Volkswagen...
The EPA discovered Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate certain emissions controls ONLY during laboratory emissions testing. The programming caused the vehicles' NOx output to MEET US standards during regulatory testing but emit up to 40 TIMES MORE NOx in real-world driving. Volkswagen deployed this programming in about eleven million cars worldwide, and 500,000 in the United States, during model years 2009 through 2015. The EPA fined Volkswagen US$2.8 billion criminal and US$1.5 billion in civil penalties, 6 executives have been charged.

Positive Train Control...

Since 1990 the technology and hardware has been available to prevent accidents. Positive train control (PTC) is a system of functional requirements for monitoring and controlling train movements as an attempt to provide increased safety. The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) describes Positive Train Control as having these primary characteristics. President George W. Bush signed the 315-page Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 into law on October 16, 2008 Among its provisions, the law provides funding to help pay for the development of PTC technology, limits the number of hours freight rail crews can work each month, and requires the Department of Transportation to determine work hour limits for passenger train crews.

In October 2015 Congress passed a bill extending the compliance deadline by three years, to December 31, 2018 Meanwhile many passengers have been killed or injured in accidents that could have been prevented. 

This list could go on for thousands of violations of environmental regulations that caused direct harm to humans and animals. There are reasons for the regulations we have and why we update them as new knowledge is acquired regarding human safety.
